In Swerea's textile laboratories - which are some of Northern Europe's most substantial - we offer testing, analysis and characterisation of textile materials. Our expertise within textile chemistry and mechanics, physical properties and materials science means we can offer support in the production of new textile materials.
In our modern laboratories, and by utilising over 400 testing methods, we are able to perform the majority of tests and analyses applicable to textile materials. The tests comprise technical textiles such as filters, protective products and medical technology products. Examples of fabricated products are clothing, home textiles and vehicle interiors.
Furthermore, we can assist in product development. For instance, if a customer has an idea but is unsure of which textile material to use. A goal can also be to determine more eco-friendly manufacturing methods or to make use of raw materials from forests.
Functional fibres and smart textiles
In Mölndal we have equipment for developing and producing functional fibres and "smart" textiles, with properties such as electrical conductivity and temperature regulation. Another focus areas is wet spinning. We are presently investing in a full-scale plant, and soon will be able to offer companies the chance to test their pilot products.
We also have plasma treatment equipment, a technique that, among other things, can be used to make textiles water and dirt repellent, can increase fire resistance and can produce antimicrobial surfaces. We are able to develop fine fibre nonwoven fabric with our melt blown equipment, which can be used in more advanced filtering and wound care products.
Certification of textiles
We are the only institute in Sweden that can certify according to Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, the world's leading certification system for textiles, leather and accessories tested for harmful substances. Swerea also offers certification for production facilities in accordance with STeP®.
