Wet spinning is a method for manufacturing fibres made of materials that cannot be melted. This method is also referred to as solution spinning. Swerea offers assistance to companies in developing new fibres using the wet spinning method, with focus on minimal environmental impact and low production costs.
We can help companies to develop functional fibres made of materials other than conventional thermoplastics. We mainly work with fibres derived from bio-based raw materials, such as cellulose and lignin from forestry products, in developing new types of fibres, both for technical applications and textiles.
Our methods for wet spinning
Swerea has production lines both for wet spinning and air-gap spinning on the lab and pilot scales, and excellent capabilities for analysing the chemical, physical and mechanical properties of both the polymer solutions and the spun fibres.
