The research focuses on the influence of alloying elements, impurities, process parameters and atmosphere on microstructure and properties of powder materials.
In this area we work with:
- optimization of the powder-metallurgical process in pilot-scale trials (10 kg) to minimize oxygen content;
- compacting of powder materials with hot isostatic pressing (HIP);
- studies of the sintering process for ferrous powder materials;
- characterization of powder materials.
The principal aim of projects concerning powder materials is to improve the competitiveness of the Swedish metal-powder manufacturing industry, which is now in a phase of dramatic development, but we also study the characteristics of finished powder-metallurgical products.
