Mixing plastics

There are several critical factors when mixing different materials to a compound, for example homogeneity and compatibility. 

Homogeneity of plastic compounds

While the compound components should be properly mixed together within the material it is also important not to break for example reinforcement fibres during the process. This can be controlled through a proper selection of materials, process temperature, screw configuration and how and when the components to be included are added in the compounding process.

Compatibility of plastic compounds

Besides maintaining a homogeneous mixture, compatibility between materials is also important. Poor compatibility ,between for example the reinforcement fibres and plastic, can result in the desired reinforcement effect not being achieved. From biocomposites to simpler plastic blends

Our continuous twin-screw extruder is equipped with gravimetric dosage units that enable a number of different materials to be produced, from biocomposites and nanocomposites to recycled plastic materials and simpler plastic blends.

A subsequent cooling bath or conveyor belt and granulator prepare the material for the next step in the production process, such as injection moulding, melt spinning or extrusion.
