Solar cell development
Molecular solar cells are relatively inexpensive to manufacture and they offer a range of aesthetic possibilities, since they can be made in different colours and they can even be translucent. Swerea's long-term research initiatives in this field make us an attractive partner for companies and research groups.
Molecular solar cells
Since the ground-breaking 1991 Nature publication by O’Regan and Grätzel, molecular solar cells, also called Grätzel solar cells or dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC), have gained widespread attention. Swerea has more than 15 years of experience of this technology.
Swerea's activities in the field of molecular solar cell research are focused on the development of materials and manufacturing processes, as well as upscaling and reliability testing of modules.
We collaborate with KTH, Uppsala University and the spin-off company Dyenamo AB. This company offers material components such as dyes, electrodes, electrolytes and organic and inorganic molecules for production and development of molecular solar cells.
