Simulation and Modelling
Swerea SWECAST works a great deal with computer simulations in connection with both research and consulting assignments. The primary objectives of simulation are to reduce costs and to find optimal design solutions for castings at an early stage of development. For that purpose, we use most of the best available computer programs.
Some examples of our research and more complex consulting assignments:
- Simulation of core-shooting, i.e. of sand cores
- Simulation of casting processes, e.g. mould-filling and contraction
- Verification of the mould-filling process with simulation, measurement and high-speed filming
- Studies of important parameters in simulations of casting processes, e.g. high pressure die casting and production of large castings
- Studies of residual compressive stress with measurement of stress levels and simulation of tension build-up in the component
- Optimization of product geometry with such tools as topological optimization, form optimization and casting simulation in order to ensure optimal solutions for both design and production
- Development of techniques for predicting the location of heat cracks in castings and die casting tools.
We have carried out over 300 assignments commissioned by ABB Robotics, Volvo Powertrain, Volvo CE, Ericsson, Saab Aerospace and most Swedish foundries.
