In recent years Swerea SWECAST has concentrated heavily on product development of cast components. Casting offers many advantages compared with other manufacturing processes, and knowledge of how to design and construct cast components is a key asset in competition.

Residual compressive stress is an issue that Swerea SWECAST deals with in its research and in connection with advanced consulting assignments. We have special equipment for drilling holes and measuring stress levels in metals. We can also assist in the development of prototypes of both plastic (with 3D printing) and cast metals in our experimental and prototype foundry. In addition, Swerea SWECAST has an infrared heat camera that can be used to document temperature profiles in high pressure die casting machines, castings, moulds, furnaces, etc.
