Casting Methods - An Owerview
Casting involves pouring molten metal into a mould designed for a specific purpose, where it is left to cool and harden. The mould can be either permanent or for single use.
Several different operations are involved in the production of cast goods. Casting with a single-use form includes the following:
• manufacture of moulding equipment
• formation of mould and cores
• melting of casting metal
• casting by pouring the melt into the mould cavity
• fettling
Casting with a permanent mould requires no moulding equipment, because the mould is already formed.
