About us

.

Swerea KIMAB employs just over 150 people in Sweden and is located in Stockholm.  Swerea KIMAB has a wholly-owned subsidiary in Brest, France.

We are a qualified resource for applied research and problem solving within the materials field. We are one of Europe's leading institutes for metallic materials, with leading-edge skills within materials development, joining, component properties and materials analysis; we have expertise and a range of services within corrosion and corrosion protection that are unique.

Areas of technological strength:

  • Process and alloy development – steel and metal
  • Process development for component manufacture
  • Manufacture of components – processes and optimisation
  • Mechanical properties – testing and predicting
  • Corrosion processes – testing and protection methods
  • Corrosion in demanding environments
  • Materials analysis and metallography
  • Damage analysis and materials selection

Some important industries

  • Steel and metals
  • Vehicle
  • Energy
  • Infrastructure
  • Oil & Gas
  • Nuclear power
  • Process
  • Small and medium-sized enterprises (SME)

Most of our revenue comes from commissioned industrial research, but we are also very actively involved in various national and European research programmes.

"By being a strategic R&D partner within materials technology and corrosion, we are contributing to reinforcing the competitive strength of our clients and to developing new materials and product solutions within areas such as transport, energy, environment and infrastructure."

Applied materials research is driven by combining research on a lab and pilot scale with qualified materials analysis, simulation and predicting materials properties with advanced computing software.

For small and medium-sized enterprises, we are an easily accessible resource for consultation and problem solving.

Swerea KIMAB is a member of the Swerea Group together with four other research companies (Swerea IVF, Swerea MEFOS, Swerea SICOMP and Swerea SWECAST).
