Concept design means deciding on choice of design, materials and manufacturing process and forming this into concepts that can be compared with each other or with an earlier product. Various modelling and simulation tools allow different concepts to be compared against the performance required. Through Swerea IVF's extensive materials and process expertise, we can help you decide on the selection of materials and manufacturing processes.
Developed concepts can be environmentally evaluated by means of life cycle assessments. Robust designs can be achieved using our geometric safety tool. Vibrations can be studied using rigid body simulation and minimised using techniques such as automatic balancing. Thermal and mechanical effects in the various concepts can be evaluated using finite element simulation. Electronic devices can be evaluated for their EMC properties. Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheet metal forming, forging, plastic injection moulding, surface treatment, bonding, fiber spinning, textile manufacturing, ceramic production, micro-manufacturing and electronic production can be used to develop robust and easily manufactured products.
Together with our sister companies, we have also mastered techniques such as welding, rolling, metal casting and the manufacture of fiber composites. We have great knowledge of textile materials, polymers and ceramic materials. We also have extensive competence within geometric safety, plus noise and vibration in products.
